Come Sail Away

Keep up with Bay news

Picture
Mojosail.com says, "Give us Three Minutes, We'll Give You the Bay." They're not kidding. All things maritime - sailing, cruising, commercial freighters, local events, and global boating news! You'll be in the know. Count on it.

- Pacific Voyagers & the Vaka! -

Back in August we here on the Cali coast had the immense honor and privilege to host the Pacific Voyagers sailing a beautiful fleet of Vaka across the ocean. For those of us who were humbled to see and feel these ancient, reincarnated, magnificently seaworthy sailing vessels this was a chance to touch another time - to cross history just as these canoes had crossed the sea. This was, for me, a monumental moment in maritime history, and in the history of our shared global world and ecology.

I just can't help geeking out about these guys! Seeing these boats ashore (I followed them from San Francisco down to Monterey) was like seeing a Viking ship - but sailing - not in a museum - not cold, unburied, shellacked and preserved. These vessels were breathing; beautiful, elegant, balanced, and sure. Check out the video below. You can get more info and history about this awareness project, and track the voyage at the Pacific Voyagers homepage. And if you get the chance - Go See These Boats!!!

... and onto high-tech high-jinks...

Ok, I don't have my own series of pics for this section... yet. But you can believe I'll be getting around to it. These guys are flying around the Bay Area making jaws drop to the deck. Watching them cut through the water is crazy. But just in case you need a crash - complete w/ replay - to help you feel the adrenaline rush - there's a vid for that:

If it ain't rubbin' it ain't racing.

Dolphins are Awesome.

Ok, this isn't exactly boat related - but it's a super cool quick peak at dolphins and whales at play - and anything else that makes a Toroidal Vortice. Enjoy!

Super cool wind map of the Continental U.S.

A whole new perspective on "lake effect". Thanks once again to the Cal Sailing Club crowd for sharing this.
